iOS Recovery
Resolves issues with Software / Disabled device / Forgotten Passcode
1. Getting your Computer ready
You must be using a Windows or Mac computer
Make sure that your computer is up to date

1. Download / Update iTunes
2. Open iTunes
Mac
- macOS Catalina 10.15 or newer?
Open Finder
- macOS Mojave 10.14 or earlier?

2. How to put your device in Recovery mode
Plug your device in to your computer
iPhone / iPod
iPhone 8 or later:
-
Turn the device off.

Press and hold the Power button until you see the recovery mode screen.
iPhone 7 and iPod touch (7th Gen):
-
Press and hold the Power button and Volume Down buttons at the same time.

Keep holding them until you see the recovery mode screen.
iPhone 6s or earlier, and iPod touch (6th Gen) or earlier:
-
Press and hold both the Home and the Power button buttons at the same time.

Keep holding them until you see the recovery mode screen.
iPad
iPad models with Face ID:
-
Turn the device off.

Press and hold the Power button until you see the recovery mode screen.
iPad with Home button:
-
Turn the device off.
-
Press and hold both the Home and the Power buttons at the same time.

Keep holding them until you see the recovery mode screen.
3. Restore / Update
Keep your device connected to your computer during this whole process
Note: If the download takes more than 15 minutes and your device exits the recovery mode screen, let the download finish, then repeat step 2
Software issue / Disabled device
Update your device
When you see the option to Restore or Update, choose Update.
Your computer will try to reinstall the software without erasing your data.
Wait while your computer downloads the software for your device.
Note: If the download takes more than 15 minutes and your device exits the recovery mode screen, let the download finish, then repeat step 2
If the update fails, you’ll have to restore your device.
Forgotten Passcode / Restore Device
You have to restore your device
⚠️ WARNING ⚠️
Your data will be removed!
If you have your data backed up to the same computer or iCloud, you can re-download your data during setup
When you see the option to Restore or Update, choose Restore.
Your computer will restore your device to as new.
Wait while your computer downloads the software for your device.
Once your device is restored...
During setup, it will only allow you to enter the password for the Apple ID originally setup to the phone.
This is for security and an anti-theft measure.
Once passed this stage it will allow you to setup a new passcode.
Note: If you do not know your Apple ID details, you may have to speak to Apple with proof of ownership so that they may be able to do this for you.
